Concept of company

Our business was founded in Gifu Prefecture, Japan in 1877.We make a traditional Japanese dish called “Tsukudani”. “Tsukudani”is small seafood , meat or seaweed that has been simmered in soy sauce and sugar. “Tsukudani” can be made with Ayu or sweetfish, an excellent food fish that can only be raised in clean rivers such as Nagara River, one of the most beautiful rivers in Japan. Therefore , Ayu has been called “The Queen of limpid stream” for a long time.You can enjoy and experience the heart and soul of Japan through Ayu cuisine…that is “Umaiya.”

April 1877           Founded as Kanoshokuhin in 1-12 Sakuragicho,

                           Gifu, Japan

November 1970   Established as Kanoshokuhin Co.,LTD.

September 1985   Corporate name changed to

                           UMAIYA Co., LTD.

April 2008           Head office moved to 1-1, Higashiuzura, Gifu city,

                           Gifu prefecture, 500-8281, Japan 

                           *The former head office now plays a role of factory.
